Online Degree Programs in Nursing

Nurses are an essential part of hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, and nursing care facilities. They assist doctors when needed, they make sure patients take their medication, and they provide care for those who will be in the hospital for awhile. There are several different types of nurses including nurse’s aides, LPN’s, RN’s, and those trained in passing out medication. These nurses must take courses in first aid, medical management, patient care, medical terminology, and physical therapy in order to earn their degree. Nurses who earn more than one degree will have more responsibilities than those who do not. Depending on where a student wants to work once they graduate, they should consider all of their options.

Nurses are needed more than any other profession because of the growing number of people that require their services. There is a need for nurses who can travel, who can work different shifts, and who can work more hours than usual. Nurses who want to work in administration will have to earn a master’s degree in nursing or in health administration because they will be in charge of a group of nurses and will have to make budget decisions, scheduling decisions, and patient care decisions. Nurses who want to work in administration usually run a floor in a hospital, a nursing unit in a nursing care facility, or may run the front desk of a clinic or doctor’s office.

Once nursing students complete their internships and other coursework, they will have to pass a certification test in order to work in a health facility. Critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills are tested to see if nursing students have learned how to provide a certain level of care to patients. If a nurse does not pass this test the first time, they will be able to take it again if they choose.
