College Financial Aid
In the 2006-2007 academic year there was more
than $130 US billion distributed in financial aid to both graduate
and undergraduate students. These included student
grants from various sources, federal student loans, work-study
programs and even tax credits and deductions. Additionally,
students borrowed over $18 US billion from private sources and
state institutions to finance their education. In total this
was an increase of 82% over the 10 years from 1996-1997 to 2006-2007,
and financial aid to both undergraduate and graduate students
increased at roughly the same rate.
